Adult Forum Fall Series 2011
Spirituality is the way we live our life. This Fall we will explore aspects of Christian, Muslim, and Jewish spirituality.
- September 18 - We will reflect on what we mean when we speak of spirituality.
- September 25 - Will Gravely will continue his discussion of the way some Christians in Germany lived out their spirituality by resisting the extermination of Jews.
- October 2 - We will consider how the promise of a life after death impacts our spirituality? As Christians, for example, we look to an afterlife, the resurrection of the dead, as the goal of our lives which gives meaning and purpose to the struggles we encounter. Is this a stimulus to
- October 9 - We will explore how belief in an afterlife influences Muslims. Imam Ibrahim Kazerooni will be the guest speaker. Summary
- October 16 - Daniel Bennett, a respected Jewish educator, will help us understand whether and how the idea of an afterlife influences Jewish spirituality. Summary
- October 23 - We will take this time to reflect on our learning's about Islam and Judaism. What can we take away?
- October 30 - Rev. Michael will summarize Christian teachings and explore again their impact on our spirituality. Summary
- November 6 - The series concludes with a panel discussion, composed of Daniel, Imam Ibrahim, and Reverend Michael answering all of our questions on this important subject.
- November 20 - Adult Forum begins a new series, one more sharply focused on Episcopalian Spirituality. On Sunday November 20, participants will explore the question “Who is an Episcopalian?” in a kinetic, upbeat setting.
- December 4 - The Reverend Canon Carl Andrews of St. Timothy’s parish will lead a discussion about the workings of the Bishop’s office and how a diocese is bound together through the bishop.
- December 11 - Deacon Becky Jones, will facilitate our reflection on “The Spirituality of Politics.”
- December 18 - Reflection on “An Episcopalian Christmas” and an opportunity to draw together the many strands which have formed the series.
Ibrahim Kazerooni is the former Director of the Abrahamic Initiative at St John Cathedral and serves as a member of the Board of Religious advisers to the Denver Police Department. In addition to theological studies, Imam Kazerooni has earned degrees in petroleum engineering and business administration. He is currently writing his doctoral dissertation on the contribution of religion to international relations. Daniel Bennett loves to teach and to coach both children and adults to achieve their personal mission: to find and nurture their path and passion. A strong and innovative presence in Jewish education in Denver for over 30 years, Daniel began his career after graduate studies in Jewish history and Semitic languages at The Ohio State University. Plans for a series on aspects of Episcopalian spirituality, running from November 20 to December 18 are being completed. More on this in next month’s Epistle.
