Youth Group
In 2010 our youth were very active. Among the year's activities was our 13th annual retreat to Camp Id-Ra-Ha-Je where we had a record 70 in attendance; ski/ tubing adventure to Winter Park, Water World, Genesis, and many other fun activities.
In addition to regular youth group meetings on Sunday nights - Jr High meets from 5-7 pm and Sr high meets from 7-9 pm - we had a number of small group opportunities throughout the year. In small groups teens had an opportunity to take on leadership for the group, plan and grow spiritually. Both Junior High and Senior High went on mission trips. The Senior High went to Belfast, Maine and successfully raised $30,000 to go on this trip, with the bulk of that money being raised at the silent auction. The Junior High trip was a local one where youth worked with a number of different agencies in the Denver area, serving people in need.
Our plans for 2011 are well under way. In February we will again journey to Bailey for our 14th annual youth group retreat. Many of our teens are taking an active role in the weekend. Our summer promises to be a busy one. Our Senior High is already busy with plans to go to Mescalero, New Mexico, to help repair houses on the Apache reservation. We will continue to host monthly "icebreakers," activities to which our youth can invite friends for non-threatening fun and Christian fellowship. We will continue to participate in community outreach such as Operation Christmas Child.
Our biggest goal for 2011 is to build the Drennen O'Melia Youth Center. The undertaking is huge but we feel strongly called to provide a place in this community where teens can hang out after school and during lunch. We ask for your continued prayers and support in whatever way you feel called to give. Drennen O'Melia was truly a gift to so many of us and has forever changed all of our lives; our prayer is that we will honor him with this center for as long as St. Tims stands.
