75TH ANNIVERSARY PLANNING COMMITTEE
MEETS MONTHLY TO PREPARE FOR JANUARY 2026 EVENT
This committee will lead the effort to celebrate our church’s rich history through several special events in 2026. Honor 75 years of faith, community, and God’s enduring presence in our parish by being a part of this team.
“HOW WE LEARN TO BE BRAVE” BY BISHOP MARIANN EDGAR BUDDE
FACILITATORS: JOANNE SIMCIK & DON MARXHAUSEN
Details: Meets weekly for 9 sessions on Tuesdays at 12-1:30 pm in the St. Tim’s Library from 9/16 to 11/11. Participants will need their own copy of the book. Please speak to clergy if you need assistance purchasing.
Description: In this group study, participants will engage with the wisdom of the book and share their own perspectives and experiences of “learning to be brave”. Ultimately, we hope that we will build capacity – both as individuals and as a community – to be brave in sharing God’s love for all creation.
“THE TEARS OF THINGS” BY FATHER RICHARD ROHR
FACILITATORS: MARTHA HUSSAIN & LILLIAN GONZALEZ
Details: Meets every other week for 4 sessions on Wednesdays from 6:30-8 pm in the St. Tim’s Library. Meeting dates are: 9/10, 9/24, 10/8, 10/22. Participants will need their own copy of the book. Please speak to clergy if you need assistance purchasing.
Description: This book covers what the Old Testament prophets can tell us about how to “live in a time of violence and despair”. The participants are invited to a shared discussion about how prophets can help us move from rage and anger to sorrow, and ultimately, a sense of connection and unconditional love.
“THE CREED: WHAT CHRISTIANS BELIEVE AND WHY IT MATTERS” BY DR. LUKE TIMOTHY JOHNSON
FACILITATOR: CAROLYN KENNEDY
Details: Meets every other week for 6 months on Mondays from 6:30-8 pm in the St. Tim’s Conference Room. Meetings begin on 9/15 and will run through mid-March 2026. Participants will need their own copy of the book. Please speak to clergy if you need assistance purchasing.
Description: Every Sunday we say the Nicene Creed together- this group offers a chance to go deeper into these familiar words. Through study and discussion, we will develop and grow our relationship with God and one another through this ancient text.
SACRED CINEMA: AN EXPLORATION OF RELIGIOUS AND SPIRITUAL FILMS
FACILITATOR: JUNIPER O’MALLEY
Details: Meets every other month on the third Saturday for a year to watch a religious and/or spiritual film together and share in discussion over a meal. Will meet at the church from 5-8 pm on 9/20, 11/15, 1/17, 3/21, 5/16 and 7/18.
Description: We will explore the place of recreation, play, joy, and connection in our spiritual journey through cinema and shared meals. With movies as our “text study”, it is a chance to deepen our faith and our friendships through discussion and shared experiences.
DISCIPLES IN ACTION: BRINGING THE GOSPEL TO THE PUBLIC SQUARE
FACILITATORS: BETSY HOLT & DONNA PACKARD
Details: Scheduled monthly meetings will include prayer, education, and action. Meetings are scheduled from 6:30 - 7:45 on September 24, October 15, November 11, and December 10. Ad hoc meetings may include attending public protests, public meetings, and town halls, or engaging in phone-banking and postcard writing.
Description: Disciples in Action is a community at St. Tim’s focused on bringing God’s love to civic and political arenas through prayer, study, and non-violent action. The group uses scripture to guide action and messaging.
MEN’S FAITH SHARING AND ACTION GROUP
FACILITATORS: DESI NICOTERA & BALE BARRERA
Details: Meets twice a month during either a weekday evening or a weekend for an hour and a half, specifics to be determined by the group. Will meet at the church and outside the church depending on the activity.
Description: We seek to form a group of men at St. Tim’s who come together to share faith, learn from others, socialize, and serve the parish. We hope to create a band of brothers who will share their experiences as sons, husbands, fathers, and friends. We will meet regularly to discuss our faith and offer services to help parishioners in need.
TABLETOP GAMING SMALL GROUP
FACILITATORS: CRAIG BOWIE & EOGHAN COX
Details: Frequency and timing of meetings to be determined by the group. Likely to meet twice a month at a member’s home, game shops, and/or St. Tim’s. The kind of game played will also be determined by the members of the group- can be a role-playing game, board game, card game, etc.
Description: This group seeks to foster shared experiences through gaming, conversation, prayer, and fellowship. Tabletop games can feel daunting to begin alone, join this group of experienced facilitators who have a library of games to choose from and are excited to teach you how to play. This group will gather to pray Compline together at the conclusion of each gaming session, providing a chance to pray with and for each other.
